How to market your business?

Tough but very interesting question isn’t it?

Recently I attended one of my student preview seminar. He just launched his book and has become best seller in 3 months. Good huh? :) . Anyway, that was his first seminar as a compliment for those purchased his book.

I met him last week and he asked me how to market his book online. I thought this is an interesting question and would be an interesting discussion and thus decide to discuss it in our blog today.

Now, the first question I asked him is “Who is your target audience?”

As internet marketer, the very first question you MUST ask yourself is “Who is your target audience?” or “Who will buy your products?”

Take a look at his website www.andrewchia.com and see how he does things there…

One extremely common mistake as a site owners make is to think that their target audience is everyone.

You will fail if you plan to target everyone that visited your site. Trust me on this, end of the day you will get no one!

Hey, other than not focusing to his target audience, I believe Andrew has done a good job sharing what he knows most and passionate about.

From my assessment and understanding, I feel that his target audience are internet marketers looking that are looking for general information rather than focusing on what he’s good at which is stock and investment.

If so, to answer his first question would be:

He should focusing on marketing his book by creating a separate sales page and at the same time sharing his experiences and share his knowledge based on the current stock and investment news. This would be the most ideal way of marketing his book.

Now, my second question to him is “What is the Unique Selling Preposition of your website?”

This is the first thing he should have been asking right from the beginning before even launching his book.

  • Why people want to buy from you not others?
  • What is good about your book?
  • What is your USP (Unique Selling Preposition)?

So, basically, you need to ask yourself, “What’s so special about your product? Why would someone bother to fork out money and buy it? Why they should pay attention to what you’ve to share?”

Believe me, Without a refreshing and attention-grabbing USP, your product is just another product out there that started by a newbie who simply put up the website and offering some bonuses to make it look impressive which is not obviously. Honestly, if I’m a visitor, guess what I will say: “DON’T WASTE MY TIME!”

What to do actually?

You see… You need to understand what USP REALLY is. You really need to pay attention when you deciding on your USP. For example, a website selling some products is not a USP. But a website selling some products that give Free Seminar can be a USP. Get my point? :)

Hey, a good USP will always make people say “wow, that’s a great!”

With that, I believe I’ve answered your question:

You should forget about general sharing of information. Hey, I don’t mean stop doing it, what I meant is you should concentrate your advertising effort is delivering the USP of your book. You need to tell people “Hey, I got new secrets which you can never get out there. Get it now before it’s too late!”

You must tell others your USP and what you’re offering!

Now, since we’re talking about how to market your book I think it’s better as well I share you how to build a database and get people to opt-in to your list.

I probably repeated this a hundred times already by now, but I still need to say this again… Build your list! Without list you won’t make much money.

This is especially true if you are running an internet business.

Look, you may be selling only one thing in your website now and probably there’s no demand at the moment. But it may not be the same next time when you have other products or services to offer.

Ask yourself this; “What’s the best way to make them remember you when they need your product or service?”

  1. Always spend money to advertise in front of them or
  2. Get them into your list so that you can remind them of your existence, for free.

Which way do you prefer? Definitely you will choose the second way right?

So, how to get them to subscribe your newsletter is another challenge. Whatever it is the very first thing you should do now is list building. When you have lists then you can make consistent income every time you launch your book or products.

That’s about it! Share me if you’ve different ideas on how to market your product.

Cheers! :)
